There are words like Freedom
Sweet and wonderful to say.
On my heart-strings freedom sings
All day everyday.
There are words like Liberty
That almost make me cry.
If you had known what I knew
You would know why.”
Langston Hughes, “Refugee in America
According to a New York Times article in 2010, the state of Arizona is a hotbed for refugees from across the world. As more refugees flood into the Copper State, more resources must be made available to the refugees and to volunteers hoping to aide in their acclimation to the United States.
This site is being developed with the hope of connecting other volunteers with guides to helping the growing refugee population, as well as sharing stories of some encounters with refugees. The site’s developer, Mauro Whiteman, is a journalist and a volunteer for local refugees in the Phoenix area.
